Participants should gather at 8:15 a.m. and the ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m. Due to the construction on W. First Street, the event will be held at the Albaugh Family Senior Community Center, 150 NW Ash Dr. in Ankeny. Department personnel, family members, area fire and police departments and the public are invited to attend.

The Remembrance Ceremony will follow the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) recommendations including the “Moment of Silence with Bells Ceremony.” The ceremony honors those who lost their lives from the fire service, law enforcement and civilians. We will remember those individuals who lost their lives in New York, Washington, DC and Shanksville, PA on this fateful day. The Ankeny Police Honor Guard will present colors.

Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk

Following the Remembrance Ceremony, the Annual Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk will take place. The event will honor and celebrate area first responders – firefighters, police, EMTs, and paramedics, as well as the military service members who serve, sacrifice, and protect us every day. The race is produced by the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, established in memory of fallen 9/11 FDNY Firefighter Stephen Siller.
