Controlled Home Burns Along Merle Hay Road

City of Johnston recently issued the following announcement.

The Johnston-Grimes Metropolitan Fire Department will be conducting training and controlled burns on two properties along Merle Hay Road. The controlled burns are part of a training exercise and the homes will be burned down following the training. 

The first training and controlled burn will be at 5495 Merle Hay Road on Friday, Dec. 10. The department will begin training at 9 a.m. and the home will be burned down by 4 p.m.

The second training and controlled burn will be at 5475 Merle Hay Road. The department will be training on Monday, Dec. 13, Wednesday, Dec. 15 and Friday, Dec. 17. The home will be burned down by 4 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 17.

Please do not be alarmed if you see smoke while traveling along Merle Hay Road or I-80/35. The Fire Department has the burns under control. If the wind speed increases on either of these days, the department will cancel the burn.
