Giving back is something the Johnston-Grimes firefighters truly enjoy doing. Recently, the Johnston-Grimes Local 4835 firefighters raised money by selling their RED shirts to support the deployed military members. The money raised is given to a military member or their family. Firefighter/Paramedic Austin Sapienza is also an Air Guard member and knew of a deserving family in his unit. He proposed purchasing a play set for the family to his other firefighter members. They were certainly on board, but they needed a few additional funds for the play set. Austin reached out to Rainbow of the Heartland and they covered the remainder and installed the playset at no charge.

The Johnston-Grimes firefighters were presented with a signed award from the 132nd Operations Support SQ and the 124th Attack Squad for their support of the family. The firefighters cannot wait to proudly display this at the fire station.

Like firefighters, the Air Guard members rely on family and brotherhood to get them through difficult times. The family appreciates the support of the Johnston-Grimes firefighters and Rainbow to ensure their family creates memories and lots of laughter with the new playset. It’s times like these that we remember to come together to support one another.
