On Friday, May 27, 2022, Brenda Smith will retire after a 16-year career with the City of Johnston Parks Department.

Brenda joined the City of Johnston in 2006. During this time, the Parks and Public Works were diving into two separate departments. Brenda helped with the transition and established the Parks Administrative Assistant position, where she served until the present day.

During her tenure, Brenda served as the voice and front lines of the Parks Department, fielding calls from residents and working with building and facility rentals. She is described as “the rock” of the Department by her coworkers and always makes those around her smile.

Brenda enjoyed managing the rentals for the Simpson Barn, specifically working on wedding or special events and meeting with residents. She also enjoyed working with her fellow Parks Department employees.

As Brenda gets ready for retirement, she looks forward to spending more time with her grandkids, performing bluegrass and folk music with her band and traveling.
