On Monday, March 28, Lt. Tompkins retired from the Johnston Police Department (JPD) after 22-years of service. Tompkins was hired in 2000, and the population was 8,649, with 14 members on the police force. Today, it is more than double with a population of 24,064. He has worked for four police chiefs and three Mayors. During his time with the JPD, he has served as a records clerk, officer, detective, detective sergeant, administrative sergeant, and most recently, lieutenant.
Lt. Tompkins has enjoyed serving the Johnston community and being involved in many capacities, including Johnston Green Days, Smokin Heroes, Johnston Rotary, and many more community events. While Tyler will miss working with those in the community, he will also miss the members of the police department. The department is a family, and he enjoyed serving with his brothers and sisters in blue.
As he steps away from his law enforcement career, Tyler looks forward to spending more time with his family and expanding his real-estate business. We thank Lt. Tompkins for his service to the Johnston community and for always serving and protecting with honor.
