Policymakers evaluating public transit funding

The Iowa DOT and the DART Alternative Funding Advisory Committee are collecting feedback through a short, 1-minute survey available here.

About the Committee

DART has been working with the Iowa Legislature for several years to seek alternative funding sources for public transportation. For decades, public transportation in Iowa has been funded locally with property taxes. The DART Commission would like to maintain DART services while reducing reliance on property taxes.

Earlier this year, the Iowa Legislature asked the Department of Transportation (DOT) and Department of Revenue to lead a DART Alternative Funding Advisory Committee. The purpose of the committee is to evaluate ways to increase funding for DART without increasing property taxes. The committee is now underway and seeking public input on potential funding solutions, which will help inform a recommendation the committee provides to the Legislature before the end of the year.
