Seatbelt And Texting Enforcement Project

0Comments

The Johnston Police Department, in conjunction with the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau, will be conducting a traffic safety awareness project on Wednesday, Sept. 21 and Monday, Sept. 26.

The project’s main goals are to enforce seatbelt and texting violations. However, all traffic infractions will be enforced.

As of Thursday, Sept. 15, 2022, there have been 235 people who lost their lives on Iowa roadways as a result of vehicle crashes and 70 of those were not wearing a seatbelt (Iowa DOT). Each day in the United States, more than nine people are killed and more than 1,153 are injured in crashes caused by distracted drivers (We Save Lives).

The next time you get behind the wheel:

  • Buckle up and ensure your passengers are buckled, too
  • Turn off your cellular device or place it out of sight while you are driving
  • If you need to make a call or send a message, pull safely over into a parking lot

Together, we can make Iowas roadways safer.
