Polk County supervisors earlier this month awarded a $150,000 grant to a small nonprofit that provides music programs for children and then changed their minds three days later, a Des Moines-area newspaper recently reported.
The county supervisors awarded the grant on Tuesday, Oct. 8, to Rock In Prevention, a music-based group that claims to help students make healthy life choices. The supervisors regretted their choice by the following Friday amid questions about the group, the Oct. 11 edition of the Des Moines Register reported.
The county announced that the board would vote at their next meeting to rescind the grant, which used money slated "for large-scale projects expected to transform the community," the newspaper reported.
The change of mind followed questions regarding the salary of Rock in Prevention founder and President Pat McManus would receive, whether county supervisors had been misled about the salary, and if the group's budget been inflated.
