The Polk County Health Department (PCHD) recommends that all people wear face masks in public to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The surrounding metro area hospitals support the health department’s statement. They stipulate that masks should cover the entire nose and mouth. Masks should be worn whenever you are in public space.

PCHD strongly recommends this because the masks are what prevent asymptomatic people from spreading the disease.

They also endorse the following measures stated by the CDC.

They recommend avoiding close contact with those who are sick, and avoiding touching the nose and mouth. Everyone should cover their mouths with a tissue when they cough or sneeze, and subsequently put that tissue in the trashcan. Everyone should regularly clean and disinfect frequently used objects like phones and door handles.

They recommend washing your hands for 20 seconds with soap and water. Areas of importance are after using the bathroom, before eating, and after blowing your nose or sneezing.

If soap and water are not available they recommend using 60% alcohol based hand sanitizer.
