Trashrecycle

City of Johnston issued the following announcement on Aug. 10.

On Monday, August 10, Johnston experienced a derecho storm that involved 60-80 mile per hour straight-line winds that caused widespread damage throughout the community.

The city will provide a drop-off site and curbside collection of trees and branches damaged by the storm to assist impacted residents.  Please utilize the Compost It! program for garden and loose vegetative debris that cannot be collected by large equipment performing the curbside collection.

A drop-off site will be open at Terra Park, 6400 Pioneer Parkway from Wednesday, August 12 – Friday, August 14 from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Vegetative debris for the debris drop-off site will need to meet the following guidelines:

Branches and trees cannot exceed 18 inches in diameter or eight feet in length.

Residents will need a valid driver’s licenses with a Johnston address.

Residents will need to unload their material at the collection site.

The curbside collection of storm-related trees and branches will begin on Monday, August 17. All material must be placed on the curb by 6:00 a.m. and meet the following guidelines:

Branches and trees cannot exceed 18-inches in diameter or eight feet in length.

Tree branches must be placed on the city right-of-way parallel to the curb.

Do not leave storm debris next to fire hydrants, street signs, and mailboxes to avoid damage.

Crews will not be collecting material on private property.

As always, Johnston residents may dispose of yard waste through the Metro Waste Authority Compost-It! Program. Compost is collected on the regular garbage day by placing the material in a yard waste bag or bundling the materials in bundles, not exceeding 18-inches in diameter or four feet in length, and placing a yard waste sticker on the bundle.
