Des Moines residents are finding that they need more than mere storm cleanup assistance as they work to rebuild after a devastating derecho storm.
Residents need funds to replace food and personal items in addition to funds to make repairs to damaged homes, according to KCCI.
IMPACT Community Partnership helps through the Iowa Individual Disaster Assistance Program. Three counties, Polk, Jasper and Boone, have been included in the governor's disaster declaration. Families in those counties can apply for a grant of up to $5,000 through the program. To be eligible a family must be at or below 200% of the federal poverty level.
IMPACT is currently working through more than 200 applications for assistance.
Other organizations are also fielding calls and dispatching assistance across the area, including United Way of Central Iowa and the 211 Resource Center.
