City of Johnston issued the following announcement on Aug. 25

The City of Johnston water and irrigation rates increased slightly July 1, 2020, which was reflected on the August bill. The increases are based on operational needs. The rate increases are consistent with neighboring communities. The revenue anticipated from the increases will support the continued operational needs within our city.

The rates below reflect the 2020 rates in comparison to what residents and businesses paid in 2019. 

Water Rates

• Inside City Limits: $7.85/1,000 gallons + service availability fee $10.56/month (2019 rate $7.47/1,000 gallons + service availability fee $10.06)
• Outside City Limits: $11.78/1,000 gallons + service availability fee $15.84/month (2019 rate $11.21/1,000 gallons + service availability fee $15.09)

Sewer Rates (no change from 2019 to 2020)

• Inside City Sewer: $5.68/1,000 gallons + service availability fee $6.15/month (2019 rate $5.68/1,000 gallons + service availability fee $6.15)
• Inside City Sewer Only: $32.47/month - billed at flat rate (2019 rate $32.47/month)
• Outside City Sewer Only: $48.71/month - billed at flat rate (2019 rate $48.71/month)

Irrigation Rates

• Inside City Limits: $9.83/1,000 gallons + service availability fee $6.22/month (2019 rate $9.36/1,000 gallons + service availability fee $5.93/month)
• Outside City Limits: $14.75/1,000 gallons + service availability fee $9.33/month (2019 rate $14.04/1,000 gallons + service availability fee $8.90/month)

Stormwater Utility Fee

• $6.55 per ERU (2019 rate $6.05 per ERU)

Garbage/Trash/Recycling

• Garage: 48-gallon $7.63/month with the second container at $6.02/month (2019 rate $8.00/month with the second container at $8.00/month)
• Garbage: 96-gallon $8.34/month with the second container at $6.73/month (2019 rate $8.34/month with the second container at $8.34/month)
• Recycling: $3.45/month (2019 rate $3.43 month)
• Administrative Garbage/Recycling Fee: $1.00 (2019 rate $1.00)

Yard Waste

• Bags: $8.00 for a bundle of five bags (2019 rate $8.00 for a bundle of five bags)
• Yard Waste Stickers: $1.25/sticker (2019 rate $1.25/sticker)
• Premium Compost It! Bin $80 one-time use fee (2019 rate $80 one-time use fee)
• Premium Compost it! Annual Collection Fee $105/year (2019 rate $105/year)
