Ten agencies have been awarded a total of $504,642.52 from the Polk County Mental Health and Disability Services (MHDS) Region and Governing Board, which will be used to support mental health and disabilities in the community that have been caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, We Are Iowa reported.
Mosaic is an organization that helps with intellectual disabilities and mental health. MHDS Region and Governing Board awarded this agency $200,000.
“We have incurred expenses over a half a million so far," Mosaic Executive Director Brandi Bretthauser told We Are Iowa. "All because of COVID."
The organization will put the money toward face shields, gloves, face masks and other PPE. It will also be used to fund regular cleaning.
“Ensuring our workforce is protected means ensuring they have face masks, it means ensuring they have face shields, ensuring they have gloves and our environments are cleaned routinely," Bretthauser told We Are Iowa.
Unity Point Behavioral Health Urgent Care also received funds. The organization was awarded $100,000.
“The money we’ve received will be going to the operations of the new clinic. That’s paying for some of the staff that was sent here due to the COVID crisis," Vice President Kevin Carroll told We Are Iowa.
