The Republican Party scored a key victory in Iowa’s highest court on the issue of absentee ballot forms.
The Iowa Supreme Court ruled that a directive issued by Republican Secretary of State Paul Pate to invalidate tens of thousands of absentee ballot requests mailed to voters complete with their personal information must be upheld despite pleas from Democrats that it was unconstitutional, according to KCCI.
Over the summer, Pate ordered county elections commissioners to mail blank absentee ballot request forms to ensure uniformity all over Iowa.
The forms became the center of a legal tit for tat that eventually reached the state Supreme Court.
President Donald Trump’s campaign was also included. The ruling occurred just as Trump held a campaign rally in Des Moines.
In-person early voting is in effect in Iowa. The last day to cast ballots early is Monday, Nov. 2.
