City of Ankeny recently issued the following announcement on July 27.
The City of Ankeny will start the next phase of construction on the West First Street Widening and Improvements project beginning Monday, Aug. 2, 2021. This includes the installation of new storm sewer, water main, water and sanitary sewer services, and complete reconstruction of the south half of West First Street, from SW Pleasant Street to SW Cherry Street. Construction will extend back approximately 100-ft on each of the side streets to the south.
To accommodate this work, traffic on West First Street will continue to be reduced to one lane in each direction and shifted north with left turn lanes being maintained at the NW Ash Drive/SW Cherry Street and NW/SW School Street intersections. With the exception of SW School Street, all streets and alleyways to the south of West First Street, including SW Cherry Street, will be closed during this phase of the project to better maintain traffic flow on West First Street. The NW/SW School Street intersection will be open in all directions during this phase of the project.
A signalized crossing will be maintained for the High Trestle Trail at its current location on West First Street. A signalized pedestrian crossing will be maintained on the west leg of the NW/SW School Street intersection at all times during this phase of the project. Guide signs will be posted to direct pedestrians and bicyclists to the appropriate crossing throughout construction.
Continue to watch for periodic construction updates throughout the year. Visit www.ankenyiowa.gov/construction for additional information and maps.
