Dean’s Honor Roll for Social Impact launched at Drake’s College of Business and Public Administration

Drake

Drake University issued the following announcement on August 30.

Drake University’s College of Business and Public Administration is rolling out a new program to recognize students who take the initiative to make their communities a priority through service. Dubbed the Dean’s Honor Roll for Social Impact, it will lift up the importance of community involvement and encourage business and public administration students to participate in volunteer activities. Students who perform and record at least 20 hours of individual community service in a given semester and who submit a reflection paper or attend a reflection session at the end of the semester will be placed on this honor roll in recognition of their commitment to make a positive societal impact.

“The Honor Roll for Social Impact is evidence that a business education can be a force for good, contributing to the global economy and to society,” said Alejandro Hernandez, dean of the College of Business and Public Administration. “This platform will recognize the service that many of our students are already performing and inspire others to experience the transformational value of volunteering.”

Underpinning the Honor Roll for Social Impact is an online technology platform from NobleHour, which is being launched for students to record their hours and provide information about their service using either a web browser or mobile app. The platform will also allow students to build out a volunteer profile and provide them with community engagement opportunities available at the more than 90 recognized non-profit partner agencies through Drake’s Office of Community Engaged Learning.

“This new business school program builds on Drake’s long history of service and our students’ commitment to making a difference in the community,” said Renee Sedlacek Lee, director of the Office of Community Engaged Learning. “The CPBA Dean’s Honor Roll for Social Impact is a forerunner of our plans to measure the impact of our service activities across the entire campus community.”
