Ankeny Fire Department responds to three alarm apartment fire

City of Ankeny issued the following announcement on August 31.

At 2:43 p.m. on Aug. 31, 2021, the Ankeny Fire Department was called to the scene of an apartment fire at 217 NE 12th Street Place. Crews arrived at 2:47 p.m. and found the three-story apartment building filled with heavy smoke and flames in the attic. The fire was under control in about 1.5 hours, however crews are still on the scene. At this time, the cause of the fire is unknown and it is under investigation. The public should avoid the area if possible.

Ankeny Police, Polk City Fire, Urbandale Fire, Windsor Heights Fire, Altoona Fire, Johnston Grimes Metropolitan Fire, Bondurant Fire, Saylor Township Fire, Polk County Emergency Management and the Red Cross were on the scene to assist with the fire.
