Northwest Polk County Residents'' Choice Favorites in Johnston

Choice

City of Johnston issued the following announcement on October 13.

More than two decades ago, CITYVIEW launched its Best Of Des Moines readers’ poll, and it continues to grow. Now, for the third year, Big Green Umbrella Media shares the Northwest Polk County Residents’ Choice poll results. This poll allows residents to vote on their favorite businesses and amenities within the communities located in Northwest Polk County.

The Johnston Public Library received the ‘Resident’s Choice Award,’ and Terra Park was the ‘runner-up.’

Favorite Northwest Polk County Library

  • Johnston Public Library (Runners up were Grimes Public Library and Urbandale Public Library)
Terra Park received 'Runner-up' in the category:

  • Dad/Child Date Spot (Favorite was Jester Park, Granger)
“This past year and a half was a strange time for the library,” said Eric Melton, Library Director. “Staff worked tirelessly to continue providing access to the library’s physical collection and services – notary services and printing, for example – while access to the library building was limited. We are grateful to be acknowledged for this work and are happy to report that library hours are now back to pre-pandemic status and all of our in-building services, including library meeting rooms, are now restored.”

“Terra Park has always been a favorite to many within our community,” said John Schmitz, Parks and Recreation Director. “While we didn’t win the favorite this year, we still consider our park one of the best in the metro. The park offers water and ground activities for many to enjoy. We offered many outdoor activities for community members this summer and we look forward to expanding that in 2022.”
