At midnight on Feb. 1 officers were called to Kum & Go, 1025 E. 1st St., in regard to a panic alarm.  An officer arrived and was told by the clerk a white male demanded all of the money in the cash register and then left the area on foot.

This subject was described as a white male, with brown hair, approximately 30 years old, 6’00” – 6’02”, 190-200 lbs, wearing gray tennis shoes, light blue jeans, black jacket, white shirt, a black beanie, black gloves and a disposable face mask.

Initially, this subject came into the store to purchase alcohol, but didn’t have an ID so the clerk wouldn’t sell it to him.  This suspect left and returned a few minutes later holding an item the clerk knew was not a firearm.  The suspect pointed this item at the clerk trying to convince him it was a gun and told him to give him all of the money in the register.  The clerk did not give the suspect any money and he left empty handed.  The suspect left the store on foot and ran to the southwest.  Ankeny detectives continue to investigate this case.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact Det. Vander Wal at (515) 289-5270 or jvanderwal@ankenyiowa.gov.
