Ankeny Fire Department Responds to Apartment Fire

City of Ankeny recently issued the following announcement.

The Ankeny Fire Department responded to a commercial structure fire at 109 NW College Avenue in Ankeny at 8:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2022.

When crews arrived on the scene they encountered smoke and fire coming from the roof of the apartment building. All residents were evacuated and the fire was located and extinguished in the attic area of the building. No injuries were reported. The Ankeny Fire Department is currently investigating the cause of the fire which at this time remains undetermined.

The Ankeny Fire Department was assisted by Ankeny Police, Polk County Emergency Management Agency and fire departments from Altoona, Bondurant and Johnston. Polk County Emergency Management Agency assisted residents who were displaced by the fire.

The Ankeny Fire Department would like to thank its mutual aid partners in assisting with this fire response in the extremely cold weather conditions.
