NE 36th Street Reconstruction Project starts May 9

The City of Ankeny will begin the NE 36th Street Reconstruction Project on Monday, May 9. NE 36th Street, from Interstate 35 to NE Four Mile Drive, will be closed to through traffic. View the detour map. The project involves the complete reconstruction of NE 36th Street to widen the street from a 2-lane rural roadway to 4-lane urban roadway. The project is expected to be completed in early winter of this year. When complete, traffic safety and capacity will improve in the immediate vicinity of the project.

 The reconstruction of NE 36th Street, I-35 to NE Four Mile Drive, will occur in 3 main stages:

 • Stage 1 includes closing NE 36th Street and fully reconstructing eastbound and westbound lanes from Interstate 35 to east of proposed NE Spectrum Drive. Construction will also include storm sewer and subdrain installation, a water main crossing and signalization at proposed NE Spectrum Drive.

 • Stage 2 includes full reconstruction of the eastbound and westbound lanes of NE 36th Street, from east of proposed NE Spectrum Drive to west of NE Four Mile Drive. NE 36th Street will remain closed; construction will also include storm and subdrain installation and a sanitary sewer crossing.

• Stage 3 includes the reconstruction NE Four Mile Drive north and south of NE 36th Street. NE 36th Street will continue to remain closed and NE Four Mile Drive will be closed starting with this stage. Pavement reconstruction, culvert installation and turn lanes will be included in construction efforts. A detour map will be provided prior to the commencement of Stage 3.
