Johnston senior named national president of Technology Student Association

Johnston High School senior Esha Bolar has been elected president of the Technology Student Association (TSA), a national organization of students engaged in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). She will serve as president in the 2022-23 school year.

Bolar’s election came at the 2022 National TSA Conference held June 26-30 in Dallas, Texas. She previously served as secretary of the organization in 2021-22. In her National TSA Officer profile, Bolar said she first joined TSA in the sixth grade and it has been her favorite school activity since.

“Creating opportunities to experiment with future careers, TSA provides a place to learn about the real world,” she said. “It has taught me critical life skills like adaptability and initiative.”

TSA’s membership includes more than 250,000 middle and high school students across the nation. TSA chapters take the study of STEM beyond the classroom and give students the chance to pursue academic challenges among friends with similar goals and interests.

Bolar said being in TSA has developed her interest for public speaking, which she also uses in speech and debate, as well as in mock trial. She was on the JHS team that competed last month at the 2022 National Speech and Debate Tournament in Louisville, Kentucky.

“TSA helped me to develop the courage to speak in front of crowds at conferences and showed me how being a part of an open-minded team can help accomplish goals,” she said. “TSA has changed my life, and this organization will forever hold a special place in my heart.” #TeamTSA
