The Ankeny Police Department announced today it has created a new Traffic Unit with the goal of making driving safer in our community. Last year, Ankeny Police responded to and investigated 1,641 vehicle collisions, most were caused by distracted driving, speed and running red lights.

The Ankeny Police Traffic Unit will focus on:

  • traffic enforcement
  • special events coordination
  • school bus violations
  • hit and run investigations
  • responding to traffic violation complaints.
  • conduct traffic studies based on resident complaints
  • special traffic enforcement projects focusing on distracted driving, drunk driving speed enforcement and seat belt enforcement
  • Iowa Governor's Safety Bureau special enforcement projects
Residents may report traffic violations or issues to the Police Traffic Unit via a new online traffic violation form: https://bit.ly/3zvd479.
