School Resource Officers Welcome Back Students, Teachers And Staff

The Johnston Police Department’s School Resource Officers (SRO) welcome the students, teachers and staff back as they begin the 2022/23 school year. It is hard to believe that summer has come to an end, but School Resource Officer Kerr and Steck look forward to getting to know those within the schools this upcoming school year. They will be cheering on the Dragons during home sporting events. If you see one of them at an event, stop and introduce yourself and say hello. They are here to protect the community and get to know everyone that calls this city home.

School Resource Officer Kerr

This is Officer Kerr’s first year as an SRO. She will be at Johnston High School. She has been with the Johnston Police Department since March 2020 and was a previous D.A.R.E. instructor at a former police department. As a mother and former D.A.R.E. instructor, she has experience working with students and staff and looks forward to building relationships within the Johnston district.

Officer Kerr advises the students, “Please do not walk and text or text and drive.” Keeping our eyes on the roadway or hallways will help ensure the safety of everyone.

School Resource Officer Steck

This is Officer Steck’s fourth year as an SRO and 16 years as a member of the Johnston Police Department. Officer Steck has experience working with students at the Johnston High School over the past few years but looks forward to getting to know the middle and elementary students. He will be based out of the Johnston Middle School, but will also visit the other school buildings. He is looking forward to meeting the new students in the district and being part of their growth and development.

Officer Steck advises the students, “Be kind and respect peers on social media.”

The SROs hope everyone has a great school year!
