The Johnston-Grimes Metropolitan Fire Department is working to educate the public about this year's Fire Prevention Week™ campaign, "Fire won’t wait. Plan your escape." This campaign works to educate families on having an escape plan in place. Knowing what to do when an alarm sounds will keep you and your family safe. When an alarm makes noises – a beeping sound or a chirping sound – you must take action and get out of the house.
An open house will take place at the Johnston fire station, which includes various hands-on educational activities for all ages and allows you to see the equipment and talk to the Fire/EMS personnel about fire safety.
What: Fire Prevention Week Open House
When: Saturday, October 15
Time: 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Where: Fire Station 39, 6373 Merle Hay Road
This year, the Fire Department is also offering a coloring contest. A winner will be selected from three age groups, 0-5, 6-10 and 11+. Each winner will receive a private fire station tour, an opportunity to meet our chief, and some JGMFD swag!
