Johnston Police Welcome New Officer

A new Johnston Police officer was sworn in during the City Council meeting on Monday, Nov. 7, 2022.  The Johnston Police Department hired officer Schellhammer in July 2022. In August 2022, she began attending the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy’s Level 2 basic training course at Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo. On October 21, 2022, she graduated from the 86th regional police academy at Hawkeye Community College and is now an Iowa certified police officer.

Officer Schellhammer, a Des Moines area native, grew up in Urbandale. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Criminal Justice from Grand View University.

She will join our community-based policing efforts and participate in the department’s field training program.
