Fire Sprinklers Save Church on Christmas Night | City of Johnston
On the evening of Sunday, December 25, 2022, the Johnston-Grimes Metropolitan Fire Department was called to the Lutheran Church of Hope in Grimes for a fire alarm.
Upon arrival, crew members saw smoke in the building and called for additional assistance.
Crews entered the building and discovered a small fire in the basement had been extinguished by the building fire sprinkler system.
Crews worked to remove smoke and water from the building before returning to service.
“The fire sprinkler system extinguished the fire and the alarm system contacted the fire department,” said Fire Marshal Craig Ver Huel.
“This serves as a reminder of how important these systems are because, without them, this incident may have ended very differently.”
