On Sunday, March 26, 2023, members of the Johnston-Grimes Metropolitan Fire Department will climb in full gear to raise funds for the Fight For Air Climb. The 2023 Fight For Air Climb will be a four-building climb in the following Des Moines buildings:
- EMC Insurance Companies | 15 floors | 371 steps
- The Financial Center | 22 floors | 464 steps
- The Financial Center (2nd time) | 22 floors | 464 steps
- Ruan Center | 32 floors | 637 steps
The total of the four buildings is 91 floors and 1,936 steps. Climbing in full gear will add an extra 70 pounds to each member. When you can’t breathe, nothing else matters. Participants have already begun training in the tower at fire station 39.
Funds raised by the JGMFD will provide patient education and support important research and advocacy efforts for everyone living with lung disease, including COPD, lung cancer and asthma. Their team goal is $3,000 – let’s help them reach it.
