All dog owners are required to register their dogs through Polk County each year. If you have questions, call 515-286-3079. A dog license application can be found below.

The Polk County Auditor’s Office issues dog licenses for citizens living in UNINCORPORATED Polk County and for cities that do not issue licenses per a Polk County ordinance: Ordinance No. 136 Concerning Licensing of Dogs and Control of Abandoned or At-Large Dogs.

The following cities are issued dog licensing through the Polk County Auditor's Office:

  • Altoona,
  • Bondurant,
  • Mitchellville,
  • Runnells and
  • parts of Carlisle and Sheldahl (that are located in Polk County).
