JOHNSTON, Ia. (Jan. 26, 2023) — Johnston robotics teams T.H.O.R., Atomic Narwahls, Disco Duckbots and Radiant Rivals will advance to the Super Qualifier on Feb. 11 following a tournament last weekend.
Five teams of Johnston students were among 24 teams that participated in the First Tech Challenge Robotics League Tournament at Wallace Elementary. First Tech Challenge is a robotics challenge for 7th to 12th graders.
Johnston teams won several awards. Four of the five teams will advance to the Super Qualifier, Feb. 11 in Norwalk. Awards from last weekend’s tournament include:

- T.H.O.R. placed 2nd for inspire award, 1st place for think award and 1st in robot scores
- Disco Duckbots placed 3rd for the Inspire Award and 1st for motivate award
- Atomic Narwahls placed 2nd for the Innovate Award and 5th in robot scores.
- Radiant Rivals placed 6th in robot scores

- Disco Duckbots: Abigail Good, Adonawit Meshesha, Ahana Devadas, Arthur Chen, Gabriela LaRota, Lauren Weber, Lydia Lou, Nikolay Silkin, Shreyas Shrestha and Zak Haring
- T.H.O.R.: Ian Berg, Adrian Valluppara, Kathir Kalyanaraman, Nichlus Jaeger, Aydean Bejtovic and Ben Fischer.
- Galactic Robogeese: Ben Crame, Joseph Cramer, Dima AlQaysi, Reagan Zeirke, Zachary Quartell, Caleb Giddings, Matthews Adane, and Anthony Wang.
- Radiant Rivals: Nevaeh Good, Connor Fitzpatrick, Ren Hanson and Soumya Saravanan.
