The Ankeny Fire Department responded to two house fires today.
Crews were dispatched to the 3100 Block of SE Magnolia Drive at 12:09 p.m. for a house fire. When they arrived on the scene they found a fire in the kitchen and were able to extinguish the fire quickly. The homeowners were home at the time of the fire and were able to evacuate without injury. The fire was contained to the kitchen and there was smoke damage throughout the home. The Fire Department was able to rescue a dog during the initial phase of this fire. At this time, the cause of the fire is unknown and it is under investigation.
Shortly after the first fire, Ankeny Fire was dispatched at 2:25 p.m. to the scene of a house fire in the 700 block of NW Chapel Drive. Crews arrived at the duplex and found a fire on the outside of the home that had a minor extension into the basement. Homeowners were home at the time of the fire and were able to evacuate without injury. The fire was under control quickly due to the fast response. At this time, the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Ankeny Police, Polk City Fire Department, and Mid-American Energy were on the scenes to assist with both of the fires.
