The Polk City Council were presented with and later approved some plans for the city's golf course during the council's regular meeting on March 27.

Currently, Polk City has the state’s only Arnold Palmer Signature golf course in Iowa, having been in operation since 2003. The Club Tournament has been a staple event in the community for more than two decades, and the Club not only has a beautiful course for all playing abilities, but also a clubhouse with amenities and a living community, with the ability to host events such as weddings. Kahler Golf was chosen to manage the course back in 2020, taking over all operations to ensure continued quality services for its patrons.

A representative for the developers of a new golf building at the club came to address the council on the project, noting that due to the ownership structure of Tournament Club, they need permission from the various managers and from the city to be able to build. The building, supported by Taylor Golf Company, would be used to house all the niche supplies and machines needed to operate and maintain the golf course. The storage building would be very large, much more complex than a simple shed, with two overhead doors. They were asking to put the building on its own lot for ownership clarity.

"There's no intention to sell any vacant lot," Trent Smith of McClure Engineering told the board. "The reason it's split up into three lots, so you have a lot to the north - the existing lot of the Tournament Club of Iowa, a proposed lot for this project and this site plan, and then an outlot - an undeveloped outlot. And that's essentially just to create separation between buildings also."

The building will utilize existing access points and drives, McClure explained, and it will be oriented away from the nearby residential areas to prevent disrupting the residents. The club has already been preparing the site for the new building, doing some grading in the area while they were out cleaning up trees and damage from a recent storm. The council members asked McClure about the building and permit process, as there was some confusion over the lot lines drawn in the submitted paperwork, then voted to approve the preliminary plot, the site plan and the final plan for this project.
