City of Ankeny recently issued the following announcement.

At this time, the Ankeny Police Department would like to confirm the victim, Eli Reed – 21, died last night from the injuries he sustained on the evening of Jan. 25.  The Ankeny Police Department would like to extend our condolences to the family and friends of Eli Reed.

In the early morning hours of Jan. 26, John Peak was charged with Reckless Use of a Firearm causing Serious Injury and taken to the Polk Co. Jail.  He has since been release on bond. 

An additional charge of Involuntary Manslaughter has been filed today and Ankeny Police Detectives are working with Peak’s attorney so he can turn himself in on this charge.

Charges: Reckless use of a Firearm causing Serious Injury – IA code 724.30 (1) – Class C Felony

Involuntary Manslaughter – IA code 707.5 (1)(a) – Class D Felony
