City of Johnston issued the following announcement on Dec. 17.
The Johnston Police Department (JPD) has been alerted by Johnston residents who have received a letter referring that the JPD is soliciting donations for a fundraiser for an emergency equipment shortage.
The Johnston Police Department does participate in multiple local charities in and around our community throughout the year; however, we will NEVER ASK for money for Police Department equipment or donations to help the department.
If you receive a call or letter that does not specifically mention the Johnston Police Department or possess the departments' logo or insignia, please know it is not affiliated with the Johnston Police Department. We encourage you to never give anyone your financial or personal information via telephone. When in doubt, do not hesitate to call the Johnston Police Department at 515-278-2345.
